Our History

1876 - The Barceló family launches its aromatised wine, Sansón.

1894 - D. Cosme Palacio establishes the winery, converting it into the most advanced in the Rioja Alavesa.

1899 - First vintage of our Cosme Palacio y Hermanos wine.

1917 - First vintage of the iconic Glorioso brand.

1929 - Bodegas Palacio launches the first commercial grape juice onto the market, Mosto Palacio.

1962 - The group arrives in Latin America to open new markets.

1974 - Launch of the semi-sparkling wine, Peñascal, which modernises the rosé sector.

1986 - The new Cosme Palacio, with the input of wine consultant Michel Rolland, launches a new style of wine, Modern Rioja.

1986 - Bodegas Viña Mayor is founded in the Ribera del Duero's Golden Mile, a symbol of contemporary Ribera.

1990- The launch of a revolutionary wine: Milflores. A fresh, innovative style with an attractive, ground-breaking image.

1991 - Bodegas Palacio, a pioneering winery in the Rioja Alavesa, opens its installations to quality wine tourism.

1999 - Finca Anzil, in the heart of the D.O. Toro, is brought into the group.

2000 - The historic Caserío de Dueñas estate, with four centuries of agricultural experience in the D.O. Rueda joins the group.

2008 - Viña Mayor opens to the public with an innovative offer in terms of wine tourism.

2014 - Red according to the World Association of Wine Writers and Journalists.

2015 - Completion of the renovation work in Bodegas Palacio, modernising the facilities to continue on our path towards quality and excellence.

2016 - 95 Peñín points for Cosme Palacio 1894, our iconic wine.

2016 - Caserío de Dueñas is born under the Viña Mayor name, two unique wines that are the fruit of selected vineyards.
